About the SHAC Eagle Scout Association

The Eagle Scout Association - SHAC is a fellowship of Eagle Scout alumni. Membership is open to all Eagle Scouts; there is no charge to join. 

Awards

• The Eagle Scout Award is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. 

• Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Project of the Year Award: In 2009, the National Eagle Scout Association established the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award to recognize valuable service of an exceptional nature by a Scout to a religious institution, a school, community, or other entity. The award recognizes the Scout for his Eagle Scout leadership service project, which is part of the requirements for earning the Eagle Scout Award. Each year, local councils select a council-level winner, and from that pool, each region selects a region-level winner. A national winner is then selected from the four regional finalists.

• The NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA) is a prestigious recognition granted by the local council’s NESA committee to Eagle Scouts who have demonstrated outstanding achievement at the local, state, or regional level. Unlike the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, which is a national award, the NOESA recognizes Eagle Scouts whose efforts have made a positive impact closer to home. The presentation of this award should be conducted with the highest level of honor. Often, these men have devoted a lifetime to their profession, avocation, community, and beliefs, at great sacrifice to themselves and their families. Each recipient should receive recognition worthy of a lifetime’s accomplishments.
   
• The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have received extraordinary national-level recognition, fame, or eminence within their field, and have a strong record of voluntary service to their community. Eagle Scouts who earned the Eagle Scout award a minimum of 25 years previously are eligible for nomination. The award is given by the National Eagle Scout Association upon the recommendation of a committee of Distinguished Eagle Scouts.

Volunteer

The Eagle Scout Association–SHAC provides a formal structure for Eagle Scout alumni to stay connected through recognition, networking and service. If you are an Eagle Scout who resides within the 16 county area of the Sam Houston Area Council and wish to reconnect with Scouting, please consider these volunteer opportunities. To volunteer, send us an email.

• Host an Eagle Alumni Meet-Up in Your Community: Eagle Alumni are hosting casual Eagle Gatherings (Meet-Ups) in a variety of settings. Last summer, 30 Eagle Scout alumni gathered at the Sugar Land Skeeters ballpark to watch the game. Other settings include a meal scheduled through www.GroupRaise.com, after work happy hours, and a "burn your own" backyard barbeque.

• Eagle Scout Representative on District Committee: The Eagle Scout representative is an adult leadership role in the council. Eagle Scout representatives serve as a liaison between the council ESA committee and the local district, with accountability to promote re-engagement of Eagle Scout alumni through Eagle Scout Meet-Ups, service projects and other district Scouting activities. Download the job description.

• Day of Service: Twice a year, Eagle Scout alumni provide a day of service to the community. The Fall Day of Service is an opportunity for Eagle Scout alumni to provide service at Yellowstone Academy, a faith-based, non-denominational school serving low-income children in grades K-8. The Spring Day of Service is typically held at a local park (e.g., Memorial Park).
